Key takeaway

Zverev cut the gap with his China Open quarterfinal, while Djokovic returned to the top ten after his Beijing title.

Alexander Zverev narrowed the ranking gap to Jannik Sinner after his China Open run. Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz also climbed after titles in Asia.

## Zverev applies pressure at the top

[Alexander Zverev](https://courtshark.ai/players/alexander-zverev-100644) is moving closer to the top ranking. Jannik Sinner remains No. 1, and is assured of keeping that position for at least a couple of weeks. The race is tightening. Because Sinner has chosen to finish his season early, Zverev is set to have a route to the lead once the remaining events are counted.

Zverev collected 90 points by reaching the China Open quarterfinals. His recent 8-2 record gives that push some weight as the indoor stretch continues. He cannot pass Sinner at Shanghai. A title there would instead put the German in position to take over at the Vienna Open later this month.

## Djokovic returns to the top ten

[Novak Djokovic](https://courtshark.ai/players/novak-djokovic-104925) has returned to the top ten after winning in Beijing. The title was his first of 2026, earned when Alex de Minaur retired during the final. It matters quickly. Djokovic had fallen outside that group after a first-round loss at the US Open, ending a run that had lasted since 2018.

The Beijing result lifted Djokovic three places to No. 8 in the published standings. His 7-3 record across his last ten completed matches also points to a player who has regained momentum. De Minaur rose one position despite the final retirement. Frances Tiafoe and Arthur Fils each slipped two places, with Fils leaving the top ten.

## Alcaraz holds his ground

[Carlos Alcaraz](https://courtshark.ai/players/carlos-alcaraz-207989) retained his Japan Open title and added 500 points to his total. The result kept him third, with room between him and the players immediately behind. He has won 9-1 in his last ten completed matches. That recent run reinforces the value of a successful title defense while Zverev and Sinner remain ahead.

Alcaraz still trails the leading pair by a clear margin. He also holds a useful cushion over Ben Shelton, who did not play last week. Jiri Lehecka made progress as well after finishing runner-up in Japan. Hubert Hurkacz climbed after reaching the Beijing semifinals, another sign that the Asian swing reshaped positions below the leaders.

## Munar and Jacquet make major moves

Jaume Munar produced the biggest rise within the top hundred, climbing 15 places to No. 49 after making the Japan Open semifinals. It is a substantial move. His result placed him among the week’s clearest ranking gainers, even as attention centered on the battle at the top.

Kyrian Jacquet also reached a new high, moving 10 places to No. 76 following a quarterfinal appearance. Valentin Vacherot gained ground after his Tokyo semifinal. His boost may be temporary, though, because points from Shanghai are due to come off this week. The standings will keep changing as the late season events decide the final order.
