Aryna Sabalenka fined after US Open final
Aryna Sabalenka was fined for one US Open final incident, while other conduct drew no further sanction.
Aryna Sabalenka received a fine for one code violation during her US Open final loss to Elena Rybakina. Other incidents in the match, along with missed media duties by Venus and Serena Williams, brought no sanction.
Fine follows opening-set incident
Aryna Sabalenka received a fine after hitting a ball into the Arthur Ashe Stadium crowd during the US Open final. It was one incident. The ball left her racket after she was broken in the opening set, with a double fault immediately preceding the moment that brought a code violation.
Elena Rybakina won the final in three sets, ending Sabalenka's tournament run. Sabalenka is No. 2. Rybakina is No. 4, and her recent results had been stronger still, with nine wins from her last ten completed matches before this report.
Other flashpoints went unpunished
Sabalenka showed her frustration again later in the final. No further sanction followed. She struck another ball toward the back of the court, and it came close to a cameraman without producing another code violation.
Following the handshake, Sabalenka went back to her chair and repeatedly hit her racket before the presentation began. She also used an obscenity toward a cameraman while waiting. The disciplinary action remained limited to the earlier ball-hit incident, despite several separate displays of anger during and after the match.
Williams sisters avoid a sanction
Venus Williams and Serena Williams did not receive a sanction after missing their post-match media appearance. Their doubles campaign ended quickly. The pair entered the women's doubles draw through a wildcard and lost a three-set opening match to Chan Hao-ching and Maya Joint.
It was Serena's first appearance at Flushing Meadows since 2022. She is ranked No. 320 and carries a 4-6 record across her last ten completed matches. The missed media session did not change the outcome for either Williams sister, as no formal disciplinary action was issued.
Giovannini receives the largest fine
Luisina Giovannini received the tournament's largest fine after her first qualifying match against Lucia Bronzetti. The match ended early. Giovannini retired after 17 minutes while trailing 5-0, and her performance was judged to have fallen below the required standard.
Corentin Moutet was the only player given two separate fines during the event. One concerned clothing and equipment requirements, while the other followed racket abuse. The cases produced different outcomes across the US Open, from conduct during a final to media obligations, qualifying play, and equipment violations.
