Darderi vs Duckworth Prediction: Almaty Open 2026 Round of 16
Darderi leads Court Shark's forecast, but Duckworth's hard-court serving record supports a closer match than the model suggests.
Luciano Darderi faces James Duckworth in the Almaty Open round of 16. Court Shark's model gives Darderi a 63% chance, but Duckworth's hard-court serving record supports the market's closer assessment.
A wider disagreement than the rankings suggest
Court Shark's model puts Luciano Darderi 11 percentage points above the market against James Duckworth, a substantial disagreement about how firmly the Italian should be favored. Both favor Darderi. The distinction is between a clear favorite and a match priced close to even, with the surface evidence giving Duckworth a credible argument.
Their Almaty Open round of 16 match on Wednesday, October 21 offers Duckworth a chance to build on his opening victory over Miomir Kecmanovic. Darderi arrives after consecutive losses, so advancing would also interrupt a poor recent sequence. A quarterfinal place is the immediate prize on the hard courts in Almaty.
The rankings favor Darderi, who stood at No. 21 against Duckworth's No. 64. That supports the model's direction without resolving the size of the advantage: the more specific serving records point toward a tighter contest.

Darderi's broader edge meets Duckworth's stronger serve
Darderi's latest listed Elo rating was 1953, compared with Duckworth's 1822. That broader performance measure supports favoring the Italian, independently of whether his immediate results inspire much confidence. Recent form was less decisive. Darderi split his last 10 matches, while Duckworth won four of his last ten, a modest separation rather than an overwhelming contrast.
The strongest evidence for a closer reading comes on serve: Duckworth held 84% of his service games on hard courts over the past year, against Darderi's 76%. That difference matters because protecting serve can keep Duckworth competitive even if Darderi remains the stronger player by broader measures. Both broke in 20% of return games over that window. Neither had a return advantage there.
The market moved two percentage points toward Duckworth from its opening assessment. His serving record offers a tennis argument consistent with that direction, but the price movement does not establish why expectations changed.

Match readiness and a deciding set could matter
Duckworth had played three matches in the previous fortnight, while Darderi had played only one. That gives Duckworth more recent competitive work, although it does not establish a fitness advantage. Readiness could matter early. If Darderi takes time to find his level, Duckworth's recent activity offers a plausible route to making the favorite uncomfortable.
A deciding set would bring a different piece of evidence into focus: Darderi had won 71 of 115 career deciders, a stronger record than Duckworth's. Duckworth had won 142 of 276. Those career results support Darderi if the match becomes extended, but they do not describe either player's current condition.
There was no previous meeting to test how their individual records translate into this particular matchup, leaving the interaction between Duckworth's serve and Darderi's return unproven. The clearest route to an upset is Duckworth maintaining his surface serving advantage. Darderi changes that equation if he earns more return opportunities than their recent hard-court records suggest.
The prediction
Court Shark's model favors Darderi with a 63% win probability, while the market gives him 52%. The model's stronger preference has support in his ranking and broader rating advantage; the market's narrower assessment fits Duckworth's superior hard-court hold record. The evidence is genuinely mixed.
Court Shark's AI analyst, which reads the matchup without the market, picks Duckworth and disagrees with the model. The strongest case for that pick is his serving advantage on this surface, reinforced by his recent competitive activity rather than a dominant run of results. The forecast's median total is 23 games. That is a midpoint, not an exact score prediction.
The middle half of forecast outcomes spans 20 to 30 games, with Darderi winning in straight sets the likeliest single result. Duckworth's ability to protect serve is the specific test: if that advantage holds up against this opponent, the model's clear favorite faces a much narrower margin.

Methodology and sources
How we build model estimates and where our information comes from.
Model estimates and observed results
The win probabilities come from the Court Shark match model, trained on completed ATP and WTA matches. A probability says how often a player in this position wins, not that one result will happen. The model's number for a match is recorded before play and never changed afterwards, so it can be checked against the result.
Sources and citations
Results, scores, rankings and serve statistics come from the Court Shark match database. The market consensus is the pre-match price for each player converted to a probability. Figures in this article are a snapshot taken when it was written.
Limitations
Serve and return rates count only matches with full serve statistics, which are sparser for Challenger and lower-level events, and the tour average they are compared with covers every year on record. Head-to-head records count every meeting with a recorded winner, walkovers and retirements included. Charts and tables are a snapshot and do not update after publication.
