Medvedev vs Bublik Prediction: Almaty Open 2026 Semifinal
Medvedev's unbeaten hard-court record against Bublik deserves weight, but their latest meeting and Bublik's serve keep the Almaty semifinal from being routine.
Daniil Medvedev meets Alexander Bublik in an Almaty Open semifinal, with their history still pointing toward Medvedev despite his defeat in their latest meeting. Court Shark's model gives Medvedev a 70% chance of winning.
A final place after Bublik's breakthrough
On June 22, 2025, Alexander Bublik beat Daniil Medvedev in Halle, ending a run of defeats against him. That result matters because it is their most recent meeting, but it came on grass rather than the hard courts they face in Almaty. The surface distinction matters here. Bublik proved he could win this matchup without yet overturning the evidence most relevant to Saturday.
Their semifinal offers a place in the Almaty Open final, with Medvedev seeking another title at an event he had already won. Bublik had not won the tournament. Medvedev entered at No. 5 and Bublik at No. 19, so the rankings also favored the player with the stronger history between them. For Bublik, winning in Kazakhstan would mean carrying his Halle breakthrough onto a surface where this opponent had remained unbeaten against him.
The hard-court record carries more weight
Medvedev led the overall series 6-1 and held a 4-0 advantage on hard courts. That is meaningful support for his status as favorite, rather than a reason to assume the next meeting follows the same course. The distinction is important. The overall record combines different surfaces, while the hard-court results offer a narrower and more relevant comparison for Almaty.
The latest listed hard-court meeting was in Dubai in 2023, when Medvedev won in straight sets; their Canada Masters meeting in 2021 went to a deciding set. Those results show both a clear win and a closer contest, but neither provides a recent test of the matchup on this surface. Since Dubai, Medvedev also won their Madrid meeting before Bublik won in Halle. My reading is that the history deserves substantial weight, with its age preventing it from serving as the whole argument.

Bublik's serve offers a route past history
Over the past year on hard courts, Bublik held 88% of his service games, compared with Medvedev's 86%. His serve offers a route. If Bublik can keep service games out of Medvedev's reach, the match can become less about their accumulated results and more about a few return opportunities.
The return figures favored Medvedev much more clearly: he broke in 29% of return games, while Bublik broke in 16%. That contrast suggests Bublik needs his serving advantage to survive sustained pressure, because his recent return record offers less support for recovering from a break. It also gives a current tennis reason to favor Medvedev, independent of their earlier meetings.
Workload could complicate that assessment. Medvedev played seven matches in the past fortnight, compared with Bublik's four, leaving the favorite with the heavier recent schedule. That does not establish fatigue, but any decline in Medvedev's return effectiveness would directly weaken his clearest advantage in this matchup.
The prediction
Court Shark's model favors Medvedev with a 70% win probability, while the market consensus gives him 63%. Both favor the same player. The difference is in confidence, and the historical advantage supports the direction of the forecast more convincingly than it establishes its precise size.
Court Shark's AI analyst, which reads the matchup without the market, also picks Medvedev, agreeing with the model on the strength of his hard-court record and return advantage. Court Shark's scoreline forecast gives him a 48% chance of winning in straight sets, with a median total of 22 games. A straight-set win is the likeliest single result, not a certainty.
The middle half of the forecast runs from 19 to 29 games, leaving room for a competitive match even with a clear favorite. Bublik's service games are the specific test: holding them consistently would deny Medvedev the repeated return openings that make the older hard-court results persuasive today.

Methodology and sources
How we build model estimates and where our information comes from.
Model estimates and observed results
The win probabilities come from the Court Shark match model, trained on completed ATP and WTA matches. A probability says how often a player in this position wins, not that one result will happen. The model's number for a match is recorded before play and never changed afterwards, so it can be checked against the result.
Sources and citations
Results, scores, rankings and serve statistics come from the Court Shark match database. The market consensus is the pre-match price for each player converted to a probability. Figures in this article are a snapshot taken when it was written.
Limitations
Serve and return rates count only matches with full serve statistics, which are sparser for Challenger and lower-level events, and the tour average they are compared with covers every year on record. Head-to-head records count every meeting with a recorded winner, walkovers and retirements included. Charts and tables are a snapshot and do not update after publication.
