Mirra Andreeva will rise to No. 3 after reaching the China Open final in Beijing. The move puts her ahead of Jessica Pegula and closer to Aryna Sabalenka.

Final berth brings ranking rise

Mirra Andreeva will move from No. 5 to No. 3 after her run to the China Open final in Beijing, a new personal best in the rankings. She won in straight sets. Her semifinal against Nikola Bartunkova secured the rise past Jessica Pegula, while the quarterfinal victory over Ekaterina Alexandrova had already put Coco Gauff behind her. The rise is assured.

Andreeva has reached 6,371 points in the live standings, and winning the final would lift her to 6,721. Her recent results have been strong. She has won 8 of her last 10 completed matches, and that stretch has carried her through a draw where the ranking order changed around her. She is also the youngest player to enter the top three since Maria Sharapova did so in 2005.

A run built through the Beijing draw

The quarterfinal win over Ekaterina Alexandrova was the first step in Andreeva's climb, because it ensured a move ahead of Gauff before the semifinal. Alexandrova is No. 28. She has gone 6-4 across her last 10 completed matches, but Andreeva found the result needed to keep advancing. The ranking picture moved quickly.

This final is Andreeva's fourth at WTA 1000 level, following title runs in Dubai and Indian Wells in 2025 and a runner-up finish in Madrid. The Beijing result therefore extends a season already defined by deep runs at the biggest regular tour events. Her opponent will be Elise Mertens or Zheng Qinwen. Mertens beat Gauff and Iga Swiatek before reaching this stage.

Sabalenka is the next ranking target

Aryna Sabalenka remains No. 2, but Andreeva's place in the Beijing final has narrowed the distance between the two players at the top. Sabalenka has gone 8-2 in her last 10 completed matches, matching Andreeva's recent record. The gap still matters. Andreeva's final decides how much closer she gets.

Sabalenka holds 7,485 points, while an Andreeva title would leave the new No. 3 on 6,721. Both players have already earned places at the season-ending WTA Finals, where Elena Rybakina, Pegula, Gauff and Linda Noskova are also qualified. Two places remain open. Beijing gives Andreeva another chance to improve her standing before that field meets.

Another milestone for Bartunkova

Bartunkova leaves Beijing with a major rankings step despite the semifinal defeat to Andreeva, as her run moves her into the top 30 for the first time. She has risen six places. Her live position is No. 28, and the semifinal showed she can carry a deep run at this level. The week still changes her career path.

The China Open semifinal came only five months after Bartunkova reached the quarterfinal on her first WTA 1000 appearance at the Italian Open in May. She went one round further in Beijing. Andreeva now turns toward the final, where a title would add to the ranking ground she has made during this tournament. Bartunkova's progress remains one of the event's clearest breakthroughs.
