Nakashima vs Jacquet Prediction: Grand Prix Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes 2026
Nakashima's ranking is the clearest separator in Lyon, but Jacquet's recent results and stronger return record complicate the favorite's case.
Brandon Nakashima's higher ranking is the clearest separator against Kyrian Jacquet in the Grand Prix Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes round of 16. Court Shark's model gives Nakashima a 65% chance, despite Jacquet's stronger recent record.
Ranking separates them more than recent form
No. 19 in the rankings, Brandon Nakashima enters well above No. 85 Kyrian Jacquet. That standing is the clearest single distinction between players whose immediate results offer a much closer comparison. The ranking gap matters most. It points toward Nakashima without requiring an argument that he has been winning more often lately.
Their Thursday meeting in Lyon offers a quarterfinal place at the Grand Prix Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes. For Jacquet, it is a chance to extend a three-match winning run against a substantially higher ranked opponent on hard courts. Nakashima enters after winning his opening match, with his position in the rankings providing a stronger argument than his recent win total.
Rank is a measure of standing, not a description of how this particular matchup will unfold. The supporting tennis numbers are mixed enough that Nakashima's advantage needs to be distinguished from dominance.
Ways to win
Article snapshot, Oct 21, 2026 · Not live
Every way the match can finish. The likeliest single result is Brandon Nakashima in straight sets (43%).
| Result | Chance |
|---|---|
| Kyrian Jacquet wins 2-0 | 19% |
| Kyrian Jacquet wins 2-1 | 16% |
| Brandon Nakashima wins 2-1 | 22% |
| Brandon Nakashima wins 2-0 | 43% |
Jacquet's recent results complicate the ranking gap
Jacquet went 7-3 in his latest matches, while Nakashima went 6-4 over the corresponding recent sample. Their recent hard-court records matched those overall records, so changing the focus to this surface does not reverse that comparison. Recent form favors Jacquet. It is the strongest reason to resist treating their rankings as a complete forecast.
Nakashima nevertheless held 89% of his service games on hard courts in the latest annual window, compared with Jacquet's 84%. That gives his higher standing a concrete matchup argument: his serve has more often protected him from losing games on this surface.
Both players had played three matches in the previous fortnight and had the same interval since their latest appearance. There is no obvious separation in those scheduling measures, leaving serve protection as a more useful supporting distinction than rest or recent activity.
Jacquet's return offers a route to an upset
Jacquet won 23% of his return games on hard courts in that window, while Nakashima won 16%. The return comparison runs against the favorite. If Jacquet protects his own service games, Nakashima's lower break rate could make it difficult to create separation before a set reaches its closing games.
Tiebreaks offer another possible complication for Nakashima, rather than an automatic extension of his stronger service record. Jacquet won 58 of 96 career tiebreaks. Those results give him a credible route through close sets, although a career record cannot establish how he will handle this particular opponent.
They had never met before. There is therefore no direct result showing whether Jacquet's return can disrupt Nakashima's serve, which is the specific contest most likely to test the ranking-based preference. An upset becomes more plausible if Jacquet keeps the serving contest close and makes his return advantage count.
The prediction
Court Shark's model favors Nakashima with a 65% win probability, while the market consensus gives him 64%. The estimates are closely aligned. Neither makes him an overwhelming favorite, which fits a matchup where the ranking advantage and stronger service record face meaningful resistance from Jacquet's recent results.
Court Shark's AI analyst, which reads the matchup without the market, also picks Nakashima and agrees with the model. His higher standing and better serve protection provide the clearest case for that selection, rather than any claim of superior immediate form. The scoreline forecast has a median total of 23 games.
The middle half of forecast outcomes spans 20 to 30 games, leaving room for competitive sets rather than requiring a short match. Nakashima in straight sets is the likeliest single result. Jacquet's higher return-game success is the specific obstacle to Nakashima carrying his service advantage through both sets.

Methodology and sources
How we build model estimates and where our information comes from.
Model estimates and observed results
The win probabilities come from the Court Shark match model, trained on completed ATP and WTA matches. A probability says how often a player in this position wins, not that one result will happen. The model's number for a match is recorded before play and never changed afterwards, so it can be checked against the result.
Sources and citations
Results, scores, rankings and serve statistics come from the Court Shark match database. The market consensus is the pre-match price for each player converted to a probability. Figures in this article are a snapshot taken when it was written.
Limitations
Serve and return rates count only matches with full serve statistics, which are sparser for Challenger and lower-level events, and the tour average they are compared with covers every year on record. Head-to-head records count every meeting with a recorded winner, walkovers and retirements included. Charts and tables are a snapshot and do not update after publication.
