Amanda Anisimova withdraws from Singapore Open
Amanda Anisimova's wrist injury withdrawal opens Alex Eala's path at the Singapore Open.
Anisimova exits before her opener
Amanda Anisimova is out. The second seed withdrew from the Singapore Open because of a wrist injury before her opening match. She had received a bye and was set to begin her campaign in the second round, making the late change significant for the bottom half.
Talia Gibson was due to be Anisimova's first opponent. Slovenian lucky loser Viktoria Morvayova takes the American's place in the draw instead. The switch removes the player expected to lead this part of the event and gives the remaining seeds a different path to the semifinals.
Eala moves to the front of the bottom half
Alex Eala now leads the bottom half. The third seed will begin against either Tatjana Prozorova or Sofia Costoulas. Anisimova's exit makes Eala the leading seed in this section, but she still has several established opponents between her and the semifinals.
The quarterfinal route could include Donna Vekic, while Xin Wang and Johanna Garland are also in that part of the draw. Vekic is No. 22 and has gone 3-7 across her last 10 completed matches. Her recent record is weaker than her standing, though a run in Singapore would change the shape of Eala's route again.
Sakkari remains a major obstacle
Maria Sakkari remains on course for a possible meeting with Eala. The projected quarterfinal has greater importance now that Anisimova is no longer in the field. Sakkari is expected to face Talia Gibson in the last eight if the seeds progress as planned.
Sakkari is No. 8 and owns a 6-4 record from her last 10 completed matches. That is a stronger recent stretch than Vekic's entering the tournament. Eala's draw is more open, but Sakkari still presents a demanding potential test before the semifinals.
Withdrawals reshape the wider event
The Singapore Open has now lost 10 players from the field. Several have chosen a longer break after the North American hard-court swing. Mayar Sherif also exited after entering the event as a late replacement rather than from the original list.
Mirra Andreeva is the top seed following Jessica Pegula's departure. She opens against Aliaksandra Sasnovich in the round of 16 and is projected to meet Leylah Fernandez in the quarterfinals. Elsewhere, Peyton Stearns is No. 59 with a 5-5 record across her last 10 completed matches. Elise Mertens and Maja Chwalinska are the other projected quarterfinal pairing in the top half.
