Tjen vs Dart Prediction: Guangzhou 2026 Round of 16
Dart's recent form and return record support Court Shark's narrow pick, while Tjen's ranking and stronger serve support the market's opposing view.
Harriet Dart faces Janice Tjen in Guangzhou's round of 16, with Court Shark's model giving Dart a 52% chance. Her recent results and return record support that narrow edge; Tjen's ranking and stronger service record support the market's opposing view.
A quarterfinal place tests Dart's recent form
Court Shark's model puts Harriet Dart 18 percentage points above the market, a substantial disagreement about her chances against Janice Tjen in Guangzhou's round of 16. The favorite changes with the forecast. Dart's recent results offer a clear argument for the model's reading, although they do not erase Tjen's advantages elsewhere in the matchup.
Wednesday's winner advances to the quarterfinals on hard courts, where Dart had recently recorded the better results. Dart went 8-2 across her latest hard-court matches, while Tjen went 5-5 over the same number of appearances on the surface. Dart also entered on a three-match winning run. For her, this is a chance to extend that run against a higher-ranked opponent; for Tjen, it is an opportunity to follow her opening victory with another.

Dart's return record meets Tjen's stronger serve
The rankings support Tjen's side. She stood at No. 46, compared with Dart at No. 117, a meaningful contrast with the recent results favoring the British player. That provides an argument consistent with the market's preference, though prices cannot establish why the market favors her.
The service records point the same way. Over the past year on hard courts, Tjen held 71% of her service games, while Dart held 66%. My reading is that Tjen has the better foundation for protecting a lead, provided her serve holds up against the stronger return record across the net.
Dart broke in 47% of her return games over that period, compared with Tjen's 26%. That is the clearest statistical support for the model's pick: Dart's results were backed by frequent breaks, rather than a service advantage. Neither player had previously faced the other, so there was no direct meeting to test how those contrasting records might translate to this matchup.
Recovery and tight sets could favor a different result
The recent schedule introduces a competing consideration. Dart played six matches in the past fortnight, while Tjen played four, so Dart's better run also came with the heavier workload. Tjen, however, played the day before this match, whereas Dart had an intervening day without a match. Neither schedule alone establishes a physical disadvantage, but recovery could determine whether Dart sustains the return pressure suggested by her record.
Tiebreaks offer Tjen another route. She won 27 of 42 career tiebreaks, evidence that supports her chances if service games dominate and opportunities to break become scarce. That is a career record, not a direct forecast for this meeting. The concrete test is whether Dart can create breaks often enough to keep Tjen's stronger service record from turning sets into narrow finishes.
The prediction
Court Shark's model narrowly favors Dart with a 52% win probability, while the market gives her 34%. The disagreement is real. Dart's form and return results support a close contest, while Tjen's ranking and service record provide credible evidence for the opposing pick.
Court Shark's AI analyst picks Tjen rather than the model's choice, Dart. Tjen's stronger service record provides a statistical argument consistent with that selection, though the analyst's pick does not establish which factor decided its choice. The scoreline forecast has a median total of 21 games.
The middle half of forecast outcomes runs from 18 to 28 games, leaving room for either a compact result or a longer match. A deciding set is not required for this to be close. Dart's return games against Tjen's serve are the most revealing place to test the competing forecasts.

Methodology and sources
How we build model estimates and where our information comes from.
Model estimates and observed results
The win probabilities come from the Court Shark match model, trained on completed ATP and WTA matches. A probability says how often a player in this position wins, not that one result will happen. The model's number for a match is recorded before play and never changed afterwards, so it can be checked against the result.
Sources and citations
Results, scores, rankings and serve statistics come from the Court Shark match database. The market consensus is the pre-match price for each player converted to a probability. Figures in this article are a snapshot taken when it was written.
Limitations
Serve and return rates count only matches with full serve statistics, which are sparser for Challenger and lower-level events, and the tour average they are compared with covers every year on record. Head-to-head records count every meeting with a recorded winner, walkovers and retirements included. Charts and tables are a snapshot and do not update after publication.
