Bejlek vs Wang Prediction: Ningbo 2026

Wang leads the hard-court hold and break comparison, but Bejlek's previous win and stronger deciding-set record keep the Ningbo prediction close.

Share

Xiyu Wang's stronger hard-court serve and return records make her the narrow pick against Sara Bejlek at Ningbo. Court Shark's model gives Wang a 54% chance, but Bejlek has already beaten her on this surface.

Wang's clearest advantage is on serve

A 74% hard-court hold rate in the past year's record gives Xiyu Wang an advantage over Sara Bejlek, who held 66%. That makes Wang the more reliable server entering this meeting and provides the clearest reason to favor her, despite Bejlek's success in their previous encounter. The return gap was smaller.

Their Ningbo meeting gives Wang another opportunity against an opponent she lost to in Toronto, while Bejlek enters on a two-match losing run. Wang also lost her latest match. Neither arrives on a winning run, so the surface records offer a more useful starting point than their latest result alone.

Wang also broke in 45% of her return games, against Bejlek's 42%, over the same yearlong window on hard courts. Leading in both measures supports Wang's case, because she was better at protecting her own service games while also taking more from opponents. These were records against different opponents, rather than a direct test of this matchup.

Bejlek won their only previous meeting

Bejlek won their only meeting, on hard courts in Toronto in August, and needed a deciding set to do it. That result matters because it shows Wang's surface advantages have not prevented Bejlek from winning this particular matchup. One meeting settles little, however. It establishes a counterexample, not a durable pattern.

The ranking order also ran the other way: Bejlek stood at No. 30, while Wang was No. 91. Those positions give another reason not to turn a favorable serve comparison into a claim that Wang is clearly the better player in every relevant respect.

Recent hard-court results offered Wang modest support, with a 6-4 record compared with Bejlek's 5-5. The distinction was small enough that it reinforces the narrow pick rather than changing its character. Wang had the better recent record, but Bejlek's direct victory remains the more specific evidence against treating this as a comfortable assignment.

A deciding set could favor Bejlek

Bejlek's career deciding-set record was 20 wins from 30 matches. That is a concrete route to overturning the forecast if she can keep Wang from converting her service advantage into an early lead. She has finished close matches well. The career comparison matters most if Bejlek can extend this match, rather than allowing Wang to finish it without facing a final set.

Wang's career record in deciding sets was 35 wins from 73 matches. The contrast suggests Bejlek may have a better opening if the match reaches a final set, rather than if she must consistently outserve Wang throughout. For that scenario to develop, Bejlek needs her return to keep producing chances while preventing her weaker hold record from leaving her repeatedly behind. Wang's task is more direct: protect serve often enough that Bejlek's ability to win deciding sets never becomes the central issue.

The prediction

Court Shark's model narrowly favors Wang with a 54% win probability; the market gives her 50%. The model therefore makes a small distinction where the market has the players level. This is a narrow call. Wang's advantage in both service and return games is enough to support the pick, but not enough to dismiss Bejlek's previous win.

Court Shark's AI analyst, which reads the matchup without the market, also picks Wang and agrees with the model. Her stronger hard-court serve and return records provide a tennis-based case for that choice, rather than a reason to expect an easy match. The scoreline forecast has a median total of 21 games, which is a midpoint rather than a prediction of an exact total.

The middle half of forecast outcomes runs from 17 to 27 games, with a Wang straight-sets win the likeliest single result. That leaves room for a longer contest of the kind Bejlek won in Toronto. Bejlek's most useful target is Wang's service games: disrupting the stronger serve is the clearest way to prevent the surface comparison from deciding the match.

Methodology and sources

How we build model estimates and where our information comes from.

Model estimates and observed results

The win probabilities come from the Court Shark match model, trained on completed ATP and WTA matches. A probability says how often a player in this position wins, not that one result will happen. The model's number for a match is recorded before play and never changed afterwards, so it can be checked against the result.

Sources and citations

Results, scores, rankings and serve statistics come from the Court Shark match database. The market consensus is the pre-match price for each player converted to a probability. Figures in this article are a snapshot taken when it was written.

Limitations

Serve and return rates count only matches with full serve statistics, which are sparser for Challenger and lower-level events, and the tour average they are compared with covers every year on record. Head-to-head records count every meeting with a recorded winner, walkovers and retirements included. Charts and tables are a snapshot and do not update after publication.
